The project provides school health training for lecturers who teach the subject of ‘School Health’ in the primary teacher training course at the Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC) and the Battambang Teacher Education College (BTEC).
The content of the school health training includes lectures on the content of each chapter of the school health textbooks, lectures on teaching methods, mock lessons by the PTEC and BTEC lecturers, lectures and exercise on related areas by invited external lecturers, and visits to facilities that support people with disabilities and museums in Cambodia. The contents and photos of each training can be viewed through the newsletter.
The project introduce a two-step training system for school health training in Cambodia: in the first step, online lectures are given to Cambodian master trainers* by Japanese university faculty members, and in the second step on the day of the training, the Cambodian master trainers give lectures to other lecturers.
*Master trainers are the lecturers in teacher education colleges who play a leading role in the project. At the beginning of the project, the project staff recruited lecturers who aspired to become master trainers and conducted a selection process through document reviews and interviews.
