School Health for all Cambodian Children (SHCC)

The School Health for All Cambodian Children, funded by The Nippon Foundation, was launched in 2020 with the signing of an MoU between the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) and Tokyo Gakugei University. The project has received official approval from the Cambodian Government, and is working on the preparation of syllabuses and textbooks for comprehensive school health subjects (2 credits) in primary school courses at Teacher Training Colleges in Phnom Penh and Battambang, and training for teachers in charge of school health subjects. MoEYS of Cambodia is also involved in this project.

In addition, Cambodia is planning to establish a training course for teachers in charge of school health in the lower secondary school at teacher training colleges, and this project is also supporting the preparation of new course.

Furthermore, the project supports the dissemination of school health training for in-service teachers and the establishment of a model health room project by the NGO KIZUNA, with The Nippon Foundation scholars currently working in primary and lower secondary schools as the core.

Main Activities

Development of School Health Textbook

The primary school teacher training course at the teacher training college offers school health (2 credits) as a compulsory subject. In this project, a School Health Textbook for use in the classes was prepared and officially approved by the Ministry of Education, youth and sports of Cambodia.

Training School Health Lecturers

The project provides comprehensive school health training for lecturers in charge of school health classes at teacher education colleges, including the contents of school health textbooks, health education teaching methods and health room management.

Establish the School Health course in Teacher Education College

Teacher Education Colleges(TEC) plan to establish a course for training student teachers who will be in charge of school health in lower secondary school. The project prepare syllabuses and textbooks for the school health course and provide support for classes in TEC.
