18th School Health Lecturer Training

The 18th School Health Lecturer Training was held from July 8 to 11, 2024.

The main topic of this training was lesson studies, which were conducted at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College(PTEC) and Battambang Teacher Education College(BTEC).
Ms. Sreyry from PTEC taught lessons on ‘Infectious Diseases and their Prevention,’ and Ms. Somnea from BTEC College taught on’ Dental Health.’ The lessons were given to third-year student teachers at the respective colleges.
On both days, the classes were followed by a research conference, during which there was a lively exchange of views from the three perspectives of ‘good points,’ ‘improvement,’ and ‘lessons learned.’

On the final day, we visited an art school in Battambang run by an NGO called Phare Ponleu Selpak. The project’s lecturers gave a lesson on ‘Nutrition and Healthy Eating.’

During the campus tour, we saw students’ paintings, objects, and other artworks, as well as students practicing traditional musical instruments. In the gymnastics practice area, we suddenly noticed that a lecturer from this project was playing hula hoops with the children! She made us laugh.
This art school practices education open to the local community, opening its painting classes and library to local children.

The lecturers’ nutrition lesson for the art school students started by asking them to recall the food they had eaten yesterday. The class content was designed to help the students learn about necessary nutrients and preventing diseases caused by their diet so that they could see the lesson as their matter. After the class, the teacher from the art school asked if they could provide the same lesson to the students who could not attend this time. The lecturers of this project worked very hard to prepare and conduct the class, and I was moved by the fact that the lessons spread in such a way.
